Joe Shelly (D) of Perry announced his candidacy for Iowa House of Representatives, District 47, on Tuesday. District 47 includes all of Greene and Guthrie counties and a portion of Dallas County.
Shelly is on the Perry city council and works to improve the conditions of the lives of all people in his district. “When the horrific Perry Public School shooting occurred and then the announcement of the Tyson plant closing, it broke my heart. This should not be happening.
This also solidified my commitment to our community I love and raised a family in,” Shelly said.
“I know the importance of getting a quality education and the need for a safe environment for that to happen. With the plant closing we must help these families, educators and children in their time of need. We must have stable jobs, businesses and opportunities for families to grow and thrive. These are the reasons I am running for Iowa House of Representatives.”
Shelly will be introduced at the Pro Iowa 24 picnic and fundraiser being held Sunday, June 2, at 4 pm at the Sportsman Park near Dawson. Shelly will be joining Margaret Liston, candidate for Iowa Senate District 24, and Penny Vossler, candidate for Iowa House District 48. Bruce Lear, former UniServ director of Iowa State Education Association and a longtime advocate for public education will be the guest speaker.
