In Greene County district court Gerson Abraham Serrano Gomez, 20, of Jefferson was sentenced May 24 to 180 days in jail after he changed his plea to guilty to a charge of operating while intoxicated. All but two days of the jail term was suspended and he was placed on probation to Boone/Greene County Probation for one year. He may complete the Des Moines Area Community College 48-hour alcohol education program in lieu of the jail time. He must undergo a substance abuse evaluation and complete any recommended treatment at his own expense. Serrano Gomez was fined $1,250 with a $187.50 surcharge; one-half will be waived if he obtains a temporary restricted license. He must pay an amount not to exceed $500 for his court appointed attorney’s fees and $100 court costs. (Sentencing: Honorable Joseph B. McCarville)
Conrado Jaimes Diaz, 17, of Jefferson was granted a deferred judgment after he changed his plea to guilty to a charge of assault causing bodily injury or mental illness. He was placed on probation to Boone/Greene County Probation for one year. He must pay a $430 civil penalty and an amount not to exceed $500. He must also pay an amount not to exceed $500 restitution for his court appointed attorney’s fees. A charge of assault with intent to inflict serious injury was dismissed. (Sentencing: McCarville)
Noel Matthew Bartusek, 29, of Des Moines was sentenced to five years in prison after he changed his plea to guilty to a charge of operating while intoxicated- third offense. All but 30 days of the prison term was suspended and he was placed on probation to the Iowa Department of Corrections for three years. He must complete a community college drinking driver’s course, and he may complete the DMACC 48-hour alcohol education program in lieu of two days of the jail time. He must undergo a substance abuse evaluation and complete any recommended treatment at his own expense. Bartusek was fined $3,125 with a $468.75 surcharge. Court costs were $100. James Kenneth Harris, 37, of Woodward was sentenced to 20 days in jail after he changed his plea to guilty to a charge of driving while license barred. He may complete the jail sentence in 10-day increments. Harris was fined $855 with a $128.25 surcharge; both were suspended. He must pay an amount not to exceed $500 restitution for his court appointed attorney’s fees and $275 court costs. (Sentencing: McCarville)
