Participants will learn all the basics of water bath canning, making jam and dehydrating food at a food preservation workshop on Wednesday, June 12, from 5 to 8:30 pm in Jefferson.
The workshop, offered at the Greene County Extension office, is part of the Iowa State University Extension and Outreach Preserve the Taste of Summer program. Renee Sweers, human sciences specialist-food and health, ISU Extension and Outreach, will lead the workshop.
During the hands-on workshop, participants will: Learn the basics of water bath canning and dehydration; learn the most up-to-date recommendations and resources for food preservation; make and can jam; sample home dehydrated foods; and take home and enjoy a jar of jam that they canned
“These workshops are fun and helpful for beginning canners as well as experienced canners,” said Sweers. “We will provide the most up-to-date science and guidelines for water bath canning.”
A past participant reported, “I would never have attempted home canning before this workshop. Now I know how to do it correctly and will make jam for my family.”
The cost of this hands-on workshop is $40.
