The Greene County boys soccer team is 7-2 after topping PCM last week, with their planned Saturday tournament canceled and the end of the season quickly approaching.
The Rams played at home on Monday against Grand View Christian and on Tuesday against Nevada. The team will play in Wall Lake on Friday against East Sac County. Quarterfinals are slated for May 29, with teams qualifying to be announced.
“Another football match, but escaped with no serious injuries,” coach Carl Behne said after the Monday game at PCM High School. “Clearly see why teams like Perry and others struggled to score. Overall physical and chopped play with tons of fouls.”
The Rams won 4-0, scoring two goals in each half, and holding the 2-7 Mustangs to their side of the field. Gesser Gutierres scored all four goals of the night, with assists from Nathan Behne, Fredy Aguilar and Brynley Ruzicka, making for a great birthday gift for the senior.
“Quiet night for Gabe. Back line played very well and cleared out any real chances,” added Behne. The goalie had two saves in the match.
The junior varsity team saw a 2-0 win as well.
Team stats: Assists 3; Goals 4; Shots 12; Shots on goal 7; Corner kicks 5; Saves 2.
The Ram girls soccer team did not play last week. They were scheduled to meet Nevada on Tuesday and travel to East Sac County on Friday.
