Following are excerpts of daily activities reported by the Jefferson police department:
Monday, May 27: At 8:55 am an officer removed a deceased cat from the roadway near S. Elm and W. Oak Sts. At 12:14 pm a complainant reported a stray dog at a residence in the 500 block of E. Wilcoxway. The officer placed the dog in the Community Animal Shelter.
Sunday, May 26: At 9:19 pm a caller reported a group of juveniles near the fenced area of Murphy’s Meats, located at 210 W. Washington St. The officer located the youths a block away and spoke to them about the issue. At 10:32 pm an officer assisted a conservation officer at Henderson Park.
Saturday, May 25: At 2:23 pm a complainant requested an officer at Doc’s Stadium for an unruly patron. The officer diffused the issue. At 9:12 pm an officer provided a rear escort for riders on the BRAG Ride to the area of the airport. At 7:50 pm a complainant reported being harassed by a known female as he walked near S. Maple and E. Park Sts. The officer is investigating.
Friday, May 24: At 9:10 pm a complainant reported a group of juveniles involved in a fight in progress at Russell Park. The officer arrived and spoke to parents, who had handled the issue.
Thursday, May 23: At 6:14 am a complainant reported a toddler walking in the street near Walnut St and W. Lincoln Way. Officers found the parents of the toddler sleeping in a nearby residence and returned the child. DHS has been notified by the officer. At 4:41 pm a mother reported her juvenile daughter had been threatened by another student at school. The officer is investigating.
Wednesday, May 22: At 7:40 am staff at Oly’s Corner reported a gas drive off. The officer located the reported subject, who returned and paid for the fuel. At 3:55 pm officers assisted the sheriff’s office with taking a subject into custody, by court order, in the 400 block of E. McKinley St. At 6:29 pm a caller reported narcotics-related activity occurring in the 500 block of W. Reed St. At 8:44 pm a late report came in on a child being injured by a vehicle at the youth baseball/softball complex. The event had occurred an hour earlier. A child was sitting on the power poles, which separate parking spots. A vehicle pulled up and struck the pole, causing the child to fall off. The officer spoke to a parent, who advised the child was not seriously injured. The driver had left the area.
Tuesday, May 21: At 6:49 am a complainant reported a tree down on the roadway in the 300 block of S. Grimmell Rd. The officer stood by while the city public works crew responded to remove the tree from the roadway.
Monday, May 20: At 6:34 am city parks department staff reported items burned in the restrooms at Washington Park. There was also charring on a picnic table. It is believed to be connected to the fire incident reported at the park the previous day. The investigation continues. At 11:36 am DHS turned over bank records in an investigation of possible neglect of a dependent person. The officer is investigating. At 2:28 pm a complainant reported locating a stray kitten in her engine compartment. The officer placed the cat in the Community Animal Shelter. At 8:03 pm a complainant reported a second kitten had shown up at the same location. The kitten was taken to the shelter.
Sunday, May 19: At 9:32 am Emma Halterman turned in $800 cash she had found in the parking lot at the store. Later in the day, the owner of the cash claimed it and it was returned. At 11:13 am an officer investigated an accident at N. Elm and W. Harrison Sts. Caleb Byerly of Jefferson was southbound in the inside lane of Elm St driving a 2006 Chrysler 300 owned by Jacob Mere. Scott Clark of Louisiana was driving a passenger car owned by Hertz Rental. He left the stop sign at Harrison St and struck the side of the southbound vehicle, flipping it onto its roof. Clark and a passenger in Byerly’s vehicle were taken to ER for injuries. Clark was cited for failure to obey stop sign. At 5:30 pm a complainant reported a fire at the base of a tree in Washington Park. She reported three juveniles left on bicycles after lighting the fire. The officer located the three attempting to hide in a nearby shed and spoke to them. Parents were contacted and advised the officer is planning to send charges to juvenile court for reckless use of fire. At 7:44 pm a complainant reported an abandoned bicycle at a residence in the 300 block of N. Oak St. The officer placed the bike in impound. At 8:17 pm a complainant reported four juveniles in a vehicle trying to start a fight with her brother in the 900 block of W. State St. The officer located the vehicle and spoke to the driver about the incident. All parties were advised to end contact with the other.
Saturday, May 18: At 4:39 am a complainant reported her estranged husband had kicked in the door at a residence in the 200 block of E. Perry St and assaulted her. Another subject in the residence had struck the assailant with a ball bat, injuring him, before he left. The officers and a deputy made contact with the assailant at his known residence and spoke with him. Dale Edward Ganoe, 46, of Jefferson was arrested for domestic assault abuse- third or subsequent (Class D felony)*. At 7:45 am a caller advised of two stray dogs in the 1100 block of S. Elm St. The animals were not located by the officer. At 10:59 am a complainant reported two stray dogs running in the 100 block of W. Washington St. The officer did not locate the reported animals. At 12:41 pm a complainant reported a male going door to door at 1000 W. Adams St looking for his wife. The officer later located the subject and reminded him of a recent no contact order preventing him from contact with his wife. At 2:17 pm an officer arrested Jodi Ann Ganoe, 50, of Jefferson on an outstanding warrant for failure to appear.* The original charges were interference with official acts and violation of a no contact order. At 2:55 pm a complainant reported her bank debit card had been removed from her unlocked vehicle overnight in the 600 block of N. Wilson Ave. The card had been used four times at local businesses before she reported it to the bank. The officer has video of the suspect and is investigating. At 5:08 pm Webster County sheriff’s personnel requested an officer to check a Jefferson residence for a juvenile runaway from that county. The subject was not located in Jefferson.
Friday, May 17: At 1 pm a complainant reported a possible harassment occurring on Facebook. The officer advised they were posts, not sent directly to her and were not harassment. At 4:23 pm a complainant reported a male subject videotaping her as she took her vehicle through the carwash at 208 W. Lincoln Way. No crime had occurred. At 6:09 pm staff at Dollar General requested an officer at the store for two juveniles there being very disrespectful. The pair had left the area before the officer arrived. At 7:17 pm an officer investigated a golf cart rollover accident at Washington St and N. Wilson Ave. A 2020 Club Car golf cart owned and operated by Ellen Bunker of Jefferson tipped over while navigating a turn onto Wilson Ave. Bunker and two juveniles went to ER for minor injuries. The officer estimated damage to the golf cart at $50. At 7:42 pm an officer assisted a deputy at the medical center ER with an unruly subject there for a court-ordered committal.
Thursday, May 16: At 8:14 am, after spotting an unlicensed driver pulling from the street into a residential driveway in the 100 block of N. Cedar St, the officer issued Conrado Ottoniel Jaimes Yanes of Jefferson a citation for driving while suspended. At 3:39 pm staff at Casey’s reported a theft had occurred at the store. The officer is investigating. At 3:52 pm a complainant reported a truck missing from a residence in the 700 block of W. Harrison St. The complainant reported she believed the vehicle to be driven by a female subject who did not have permission to do so. The officer located the vehicle after entering int into NCIC as a stolen motor vehicle. The officer’s investigation showed the female driver had been involved in an earlier domestic assault by her husband and fled in the truck. The officer arrested Roger Keith Ketchum, 36, of Jefferson and charged him with domestic abuse assault and interference with official acts, simple misdemeanors*. At 5:27 pm a jailer reported something on fire behind a residence in the 300 block of S. Wilson Ave, and that a subject was trying to extinguish the fire. The officer spoke to the subject, who advised his grill had sparked a small fire, but he put it out with a garden hose. At 7:59 pm staff at Oly’s Corner requested an officer for a theft in progress. The officer’s investigation led to the arrest of Merissa Shawnay Olson, 34, of Jefferson for theft- fifth degree (simple)*. During the arrest, the officer located suspected paraphernalia. The items will be sent to the DCI lab for testing. Charges are pending results. At 8:57 pm an officer investigated an accident in the 1800 block of N. Elm St. Kay Phippen of Guthrie Center was northbound in the inside lane operating her Toyota Rav4. She attempted to change lanes to the outside lane but struck a northbound 1993 Dodge Dakota owned and operated by Tyler Lowmiller of Jefferson. Phippen was cited for improper use of lane. Damage to her vehicle was estimated at $6,000. Damage to Lowmiller’s vehicle was estimated at $4,000. At 10:05 pm a complainant requested an officer at a residence in the 600 block of W. Washington St. He advised he had been assaulted by his girlfriend. The officer’s investigation led to the arrest of Angela Maureen Bailey, 52, of Jefferson for domestic abuse assault- simple*.
Wednesday, May 15: At 9:43 am a DHS case worker requested assistance from an officer in a home visit. The officer assisted as requested. At 11:26 am an officer arrested Jeremy Ernest Andrews, 36, of Jefferson on an active felony arrest warrant for gambling- avoid setoff and fraudulent practices- third degree*. At 11:25 am staff at Greene County Middle School requested an officer at the school. Staff had discovered a male student had a list of staff and students to harm. The officer’s investigation led to a 12-year-old male being charged in juvenile court with harassment- first degree (aggravated misdemeanor)*. He was later transferred to a Juvenile Detention Center. At 3:12 pm a complainant reported locating a litter of stray kittens in her garage in the 300 block of S. Walnut St. Arrangements were made for the kittens to be placed in the Community Animal Shelter. At 4:58 pm a complainant reported a neighbor videoing his young children as they plat outside his residence in the 300 block of S. Maple St. The officer is investigating. At 11:12 pm a complainant reported a known subject had attempted to break in his door and broke windows at his residence in the 300 block of W. Russell St. The officer is investigating.
Tuesday, May 14: At 10:51 am staff at Greene County Elementary School requested a welfare check on a child who had not attended school for several days. No one had notified the school of the absences. Officers made contact with the mother, whom the officer believed to be intoxicated. Officers were asked to leave and she slammed the door shut. After speaking with the county attorney, officers returned to the residence. No one came to the door. At the same time staff at HyVee called to report a female with two young children, screaming at employees of the store. Officers arrived and located the female outside the store. Officers placed the mother into protective custody and she was taken to ER for an evaluation. A grandparent took control of the children from officers.

Sunday, May 12: At 2:47 pm a complainant reported the theft of her checkbook from 100 W. Vest St.
Saturday, May 11: At 7:24 am a complainant reported catching a puppy in the 1000 block of Westwood Dr. She met the officer at the Community Animal Shelter and the dog was placed inside. At 11:05 am staff at Dollar General reported a trespass there. The female subject had been banned from shopping there. The officer learned she had not been served the notice yet. She was advised to leave and she cannot return. At 8:19 pm a complainant reported loud music in the 500 block of N. Chestnut St. The officer spoke to nearby juveniles who advised they would not turn the music back on. At 8:38 pm a complainant reported juveniles breaking glass bottles in the alley in the 500 block of W. State St. The officer made the juveniles apologize to him and clean up the mess they made.
Friday, May 10: At 4:03 pm staff at Dollar Tree requested an officer for an unruly patron. The officer assisted in mediating the issue. At 10:24 pm a complainant reported someone knocking on his door in the 600 block of W. Madison St. They did this several times, but no one was there when the complainant answered the door. The officer checked the area, but did not locate anyone.
Thursday, May 9: At 1:28 pm Greene County Schools staff reported a stray dog at the school bus building.The officers placed the dog in the Community Animal Shelter. At 2 pm officers investigated a dog bite in the 400 block of E. McKinley St. A mail carrier was bitten after delivering a package to a residence. According to city animal ordinance, the animal has been deemed Illegal and must leave the city limits after being microchipped.
Wednesday, May 8: At 8:25 am officers assisted with the Bike to School Day at the elementary school. At 11:45 am a complainant reported a possible break in at a residence in the 200 block of N. Cedar St. Nothing was reported missing. The officer is investigating. At 6:20 pm a driver requested an officer at Sparky’s for an out-of-control passenger in his vehicle. The officer’s investigation led to the arrest of the driver, Marcus Lee Greene, 29 of Greensboro, NC, for operating while intoxicated*. He was also cited for no valid driver’s license.
Tuesday, May 7: At 6:03 pm staff at Dollar General reported the theft of energy drinks. Juveniles had taken the items without paying for them. A parent of one of the juveniles was contacted and returned the unopened items to the store. Charges are pending. Dollar General staff also reported the theft of cosmetics. The officer is reviewing video of the event and the investigation continues.
Monday, May 6: At 3:45 pm staff at Art on the Fly reported finding suspicious activity on a surveillance camera at the store. The video was provided to an officer showing a male attempting to gain entry to the business. The officer is investigating. At 5:17 pm staff at Greene County Medical Center ER reported a patient with a dog bite. The officer is investigating.
Sunday, May 5: At 1:38 am a caller advised of a subject at Sparky’s trying to sell narcotics to juveniles outside of the business. The officer arrived and did not locate anyone in the area. At 12:23 pm a complainant reported being sprayed with a water hose by their neighbor. The officers spoke to the neighbor and advised him to end contact with his neighbor or face harassment charges in the future. At 10:15 pm an officer assisted a deputy with a prisoner in the jail experiencing a medical issue.
Saturday, May 4: At 6:49 am a complainant reported the stop sign at N. Elm and W. Clark Sts had been knocked over. The officer notified the DOT. At 9:27 pm staff at Oly’s Corner requested an officer there for a juvenile messing with the gas pumps. The officer spoke to the youth and advised him he was not welcome there in the future. A parent was contacted by the officer and advised.
Friday, May 3: At 8:27 am officers removed debris from the roadway in the 500 block of S. Cedar St. At 9:35 am officers assisted the Jefferson fire department responding to a smell of gas at Camden Apartments on S. Grimmell Rd. At 12:24 pm officers responded to a car-deer accident near S. Elm and W. Vest Sts. Sue Aspengren of Jefferson was southbound driving her 2018 Chevrolet Silverado when a deer collided with her vehicle. The officer estimated the damage to the vehicle at $2,000. At 10:36 pm security staff at Wild Rose Casino reported a subject who had been ejected for intoxication was leaving the facility driving a vehicle. The officer located the vehicle and followed it for several miles. No infractions were observed.

Tuesday, May 1: At 10:43 am an officer stopped a subject on a bicycle near W. Clark and N. Vine Sts. The subject was travelling on the wrong side of the road. During the interaction, the officer was given consent to search a duffle bag. Suspected narcotics and paraphernalia was seized for testing. At 11:45 am a caller spoke with an officer concerning drug use at a Jefferson residence. The officer is investigating. At 6:08 pm an officer investigated an accident at N. Elm St and W. Central Ave. Beau Davis of Grand Junction was southbound on Elm driving his 2003 Chevrolet K1500. He turned left in front of a 1997 Chevrolet S-10 owned and operated by Michael Rumley of Jefferson. The two vehicles collided in the intersection. Davis was cited for fail to yield upon left. Each vehicle sustained an estimated $5,000 in damage.
