Jefferson child safe after being subject of an Amber Alert

A 7-year-old Jefferson boy is safe and in the care of the Department of Human Services after being the subject of an Amber Alert Tuesday afternoon.

The Jefferson police department requested assistance from the DCI Tuesday afternoon after Brandon Duong, 34, took his biological son Bryson from Greene County Elementary School at about 12:40. A court order restricting the father from having custody was issued in December.

According to the DCI, law enforcement located Brandon Duong’s vehicle at 4:53 pm northeast of Remsen in Plymouth County. Duong led officers on a high speed chase and eventually crashed his vehicle. He left the vehicle on foot, carrying Bryson and in possession of a rifle. Several law enforcement agencies responded to the area, negotiated with the father, and eventually placed him under arrest.

Brandon Duong is charged with kidnapping in the first degree and will be transferred to the Greene County jail. The Jefferson PD and the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation will continue their investigation.
