On the Rippey Library Shelf by Nancy Hanaman

Waiting for you on the Rippey library shelves is an intriguing baseball book!

“Shoeless Joe” by W.P. Kinsella, “a moonlit novel about baseball, dreams, family, the land, and literature.” (Sports Illustrated.) This book is set in rural Iowa, the inspiration for the Field of Dreams movie starring Kevin Costner.

Shoeless Joe, a player involved in a baseball scandal, appears to Ray Kinsella, a rookie farmer with these words, “If you build it, he will come.” Who will come and other revelations to Ray and his wife, daughters, await the readers of this heartwarming story about baseball and much more.

W.P. Kinsella also wrote “The Iowa Baseball Confederacy” and a collection of short stories including “Go the Distance.”

Friends Gather – Toni Roberts, Sharon Laub and Jean Borgeson met for lunch in Perry on Friday the 13th.  None of us were superstitious enough to not make the effort to gather. It had been a year since we met, using birthday dates as an excuse. There was plenty of laughter and catching up of our almost 60 years of shared memories together.

Meet and Greet – The public is invited to a “Meet and Greet” for Connie Boyd, candidate for the Greene County Community School Board. This will be held Wednesday, Oct. 25, from 4:30 to 6:30 pm at the Rippey public library meeting room. Refreshments will be served.
