This year’s farm tour for county fourth grade students marked the 29th year Greene County Farm Bureau has coordinated the annual event. In their fifth year of hosting this event for the county Farm Bureau, Connor and Cale Juergensen of Churdan welcomed the students to their family farm northeast of Churdan where Connor, his wife Lindsay, and their daughter live. One hundred students spent the morning of Tuesday, Sept. 12, rotating through 10 ag-related stations. All stations were manned by volunteers and 10 minutes in length.
Stations included: drones – Mike Richards, Home State Bank; pigs – Sophie Hansen, AMVC Management Services; biofuels mobile education trailer – Paul Emrick, Iowa Corn Growers Association; Ag in the Classroom – Sadie Oberbroeckling, Story County Farm Bureau AITC & Community Outreach Coordinator; farm safety – Greene County FFA students and Mark Naberhaus; sheep/goats – Jeremy Hoskins; cows/calves, Cale Juergensen and Brent Schroeder; corn mobile education trailer, Mike Finarty, Iowa Corn Growers Association; Farming and Finances – James Berns and Noah Juergensen, Home State Bank; and Transportation, Heartland Logistics Group, Lindsay Juergensen.
Greene County Farm Bureau was pleased to have high school FFA students Nathan Towers, Bryce Timmons, Savannah Lansman, Kate Mobley, Taylor McDowell, Austyn Smith, Austyn Funcke, and Kaitlyn Halterman attend and present at the farm safety station and also the sheep/goats station.
Justin Robbins and Bill Fields from the Greene County Cattleman grilled hamburgers for lunch, which were served with a bag of chips, cookie, and bottled water. Home State Bank provided apples as a mid-morning snack. Farm Credit Services of America – Carroll office provided the funding for lunch and Sam McLaughlin, Randy Deiber, and Reiny Ostrander from the Carroll office were in attendance and helped serve lunch.
All students received a T-shirt to commemorate their date on the farm compliments of Grene County Farm Bureau and Farm Credit Servies of America – Carroll office. The shirts were designed and printed by ShineOn designs in Jefferson.
