Services will be held July 29 at First United Methodist Church in Jefferson for Violent McClary, 92, of Jefferson. Interment will be at Wright Cemetery in Greene County.
Violet Evelyn (Baker) McClary was born April 24, 1931, in Sioux City, IA, the only child of Milo E. Baker and Frances L. (Martindale) Baker. She died July 19, 2023, in Jefferson, at the age of 92.
Violet grew up in Sioux City. She was confirmed at St. James United Methodist Church and graduated from East High School in 1950. In 1954, she graduated from Morningside College with a home economics/science degree. She taught in Hull and in Nebraska in Winside, Pilger and Ponca.
On June 2, 1956, Violet married Hubert C. McClary Jr. at St. James United Methodist Church in Sioux City, and together they had five children: Gregg, Perry, Brenda, Brian and Darren.
Violet loved sewing, quilting, crocheting, embroidering, gardening, canning, cooking and baking. She enjoyed traveling, even though she did not do much of that. Violet was an avid reader, spending much time at the library or in her chair at home, with her nose in a book. She also never missed the opportunity to enjoy some ice cream, especially if it included Reese’s peanut butter cups.
Violet was preceded in death by her husband Hubert, her parents, her mother-in-law and father-in-law Hubert Sr. and Mildred (Mann) McClary, and her grandson Joseph McClary.
She is survived by her children Gregg (Sandra) McClary of Laurel, NE, Perry (Sharon) McClary of Malvern, Brenda (Marty) Brewer of Jefferson, Brian (Debbie) McClary of Chandler, AZ, and Darren (Crystal) McClary of Parker, SD.
Violet is also survived by her grandchildren Amber McClary, Ashley (Jake) Smith, Andrea (Austin) Russell, Jeremy Brewer, Emily (Aaron) Ressler, Travis McClary, Leah McClary, Mark (Chloe) McClary, Adam McClary, Bethany (Nathan) Morgan, Rebekah McClary, Lydia McClary, Samuel McClary, Josiah McClary and Susanna McClary; great-grandchildren Henry Smith, Kase Russell, John Ressler, Kasaundra Scott, Elli McClary, Andrew McClary, Grayson McClary, Malina Morgan and Tayla Morgan, as well as cousins and many friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Jefferson Public Library in Jefferson, IA, and to UnityPoint Hospice.
