Plans are underway at the Rippey United Methodist Church as they will be celebrating their sesquicentennial on Aug. 27, 2023.

Rippey preparing for RAGBRAI® – The Rippey Lions Club and the Rippey fire department will join together to serve many of the RAGBRAI riders when they cycle through town on Tuesday, July 25. The Lions and fire department crew will serve pork loin sandwiches, chips and water from their site on Main Street. Special thanks to Tyson for donating pork loins and HyVee for their assistance and to the volunteers who are helping for the day.

The Rippey United Methodist Church will serve lunch starting at 10 am that day. The menu will be sloppy joes, chips, a bottle of water, pie and ice cream. There will be seats for 100 people in the air-conditioned Fellowship Hall and another 112 in a tent in the parking lot behind the church. There will be fans running in there. 

Ten percent of the church proceeds will be given to Midwest Missions, which has recently opened in the neighboring town of Jefferson. Church members look forward to serving and visiting with the bikers! 

Family visitors – Dale Nancy and Dale Hanaman hosted their daughter and family, Sarah and Benji Pearson, Elizabeth and Andrea, Superior, WI. Sydney Bardurian and Esme and John Bardole joined the group for supper at Tojo’s on Thursday. The Pearsons and Dale traveled to the Field of Dreams on Friday.

Rippey library Summer Reading continues

Friday. July 28, at 10 am:  Celebrating Energy Week: Will Struck will perform “Express Your Mess:” Don’t miss out on the M.E.S.S. (Music, Education, Stories, and Science) Experience! This event is brought to you by the Greene County Library Association and the Greene County board of supervisors.

That evening there’s a pool party for the teens and tweens at the Jefferson Municipal Pool located at 710 S. Maple, Jefferson. This event is brought to you by the Greene County Library Association and the Greene County board of supervisors.

Saturday, July 29, at 7 – 8:30 pm. Finale: Join us to see the evolution of video games over time!  We will be playing retro games and at 8:30 we will be showing the new Mario movie on the lawn.

Judy Tomenga is teaching yoga on Wednesdays at 7:30 am. Meet at the library on July 19 and join in the fun.
