Ram boys soccer team runs spring record to 10-3

The Greene County boys soccer team went 2-2 in action last week to set their season mark at 10-3.

Monday, May 1, PCM was no contest for the Rams as they jumped out to an 8-0 lead at half time, cruising to the 9-0 victory.

“We played a lot of subs second half,” said coach Carl Behne. 

Gesser Gutierres topped the offense with four goals. Jose Velazco added three scores along with Jack Hansen and Brayden Roberts each scoring one. Kolby Angell notched two assists with three by Velazco and one each by Hansen and Bork Ersnes. 

Gabe Ebersole was credited with two saves in the contest.

Saturday Greene County competed in the Nevada Tournament, going 1-2 on the day.

“The first match against the number 1 team in the whole state, Des Moines Hoover.  We played well,” noted Behne. “A couple of unlucky bounces and just tough play. We went up 1-0 about 10 minutes in. We had plenty of chances, but just could not finish.”

The Rams fell behind 3-1 in the first half. The second half was a defensive battle with neither team able to score. 

Hansen scored the lone Ram goal with Guiterres credited with the assist. Ebersole worked the net for 11 saves. 

In the second match, the Rams bounced back for a 4-2 victory over Marshalltown. The score was tied at two at the break, but Greene County stepped up the offense to score two more goals in the second half. 

Guiterres punched in three goals with Hansen booting one. Cody McCollom added an assist. Ebersole was charted with 16 saves.

The third match of the day was against rival Perry. All the scoring came in the first half with Perry going up 3-1. The second half was a defensive battle.

Kolby Angell scored the lone Ram goal. Ebersole notched 18 saves. 

“We played a lot of minutes against great talent all day. I am so proud of the boys’ effort,” said Behne. “Look for lots of good things to take into the final week of the regular season.” ~courtesy of The Scranton Journal
