Medical center names new chief nursing officer

Amanda Lass, RN, BSN, MSNL

Greene County Medical Center CEO Chad Butterfield announced the hiring of Amanda Lass as chief nursing officer (CNO). She will begin her new role on Monday, June 26. 

Lass joins Greene County Medical Center from Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames, where she served as director of medical telemetry since 2018. Her responsibilities included oversight of up to 80 employees in a 30-bed medical telemetry department. During her tenure at Mary Greeley, she significantly lowered the nursing turnover rate while also improving strategies and processes for professional development, enhanced patient experiences and outcomes. Prior to this, Lass served as supervisor then director of the medical surgical department at Mary Greeley. 

As an expert in patient care, Lass continually strives for improvement in all areas and encourages nurse leadership across every level. This patient-centered focus has resulted in an overall increase to patient experience satisfaction ratings, which are also correlated to an increase in positive patient outcomes. 

“We are excited for the addition of Amanda Lass to our executive team at Greene County Medical Center,” said Butterfield. “She brings more than 16 years of experience in direct care, 10 of those in senior-level nurse leadership. Lass has a master of science in nurse leadership and management from Walden University and holds nurse executive certification (NE-BC®). She received her bachelor of science in nursing from Walden University and an associate of science in nursing from Des Moines Area Community College. She is currently an Iowa Organization for Nursing Leadership (IONL) District A representative, she sits on the IONL professional recognition committee and is a member of the Great Iowa Nurses board. 

Lass and her husband Dan are both graduates of Ogden High School and currently reside in Ogden with their three children, ages 16, 13, and 11. GrTheir children are active in sports and they spend a good deal of their spare time attending football, cross country, basketball, track, baseball and softball events. The family also enjoys being outdoors, hunting and fishing, and are active members of the Church of Christ in Jefferson.
