Harriet Lindsey, 1948 – 2022

Harriet Alice (Aikala) Lindsey, daughter of Charles Aikala and Mary (Crahvalho) Aikala, was born October 31, 1948, on the island of Maui, HI, where she was raised and lived most of her adult life. As a child, she enjoyed swimming in its beautiful beaches. In her earlier adult years, Harriet liked playing volleyball, softball, and bowling. She graduated from Baldwin High School in 1968.

Harriet met the love of her life, Edwin-Thomas Naleilehua Lindsey, and the two were united in marriage in 1968. She became a widow in 1977, having to raise three very young children on her own, never remarrying.

She was a school bus driver for many years and a caregiver for a few clients of whom she truly cared for.

Harriet moved to Seattle, WA, in 2006 for a new start. Harriet was a beautiful soul and had a way of making people gravitate towards her. No matter where she went, she made lifelong friendships. She loved life and had many hobbies. She enjoyed painting, crafts, hanging out with her friends, ceramics, and so much more.

Harriet moved to Jefferson in 2013 to be closer to her daughter and grandchildren. She loved her pets, especially her dog Rufus, whom she leaves behind. She enjoyed singing, dancing, and going to the casino, where she made many friends. She especially loved being with her brothers and sisters, and all of her family.

Harriet died Dec. 7, 2022, at Greene County Medical Center in Jefferson. She is preceded in death by her parents Charles Aikala and Mary (Crahvalho) Aikala; husband Edwin Lindsey; son Zion Jacob-Kaleokalani Lindsey; brothers Howard “Sonny” Aikala, Daniel “Danny” Aikala (Josefina Aikala), and Roger “Pake” Aikala; and sister Vivian “Honeygirl” Aki (William Aki).

Harriet is survived by her daughter Zandra (Lindsey) Maldonado (Alex) of Jefferson; son Zebulun Lindsey (Tiana Malia Higa) of Makawao Maui, HI; grandchildren Chelsie Momoa, Gabriel Lindsey, Michael Lindsey, Raquel Rose Lindsey, Edwin-Lawrence Lenchanko “Makawai”, Robert Lenchanko “Kama”, Lia Lenchanko, and Lexzy Rose Maldonado; great-grandchildren Dante Deahl Ameliah, and Hoku Albano Momoa; brothers Martin Aikala (Helen Aikala), and George Aikala (Mickey Aikala); sisters Augusta “Girly” (Aikala) Plante (Raymond Plante), and Lilian “Sweetheart” (Aikala) Rosa (Clifford Rosa); sisters-in-law Shirley Aikala and Irma Aikala; many cousins; nieces and nephews; other relatives; and many, many friends. She was highly cherished and loved by many and will be missed.

Funeral services were held Dec. 17 at Hastings Funeral Home in Jefferson, 515-386-8181.
