On Tuesday, Dec. 13, the Greene County boys basketball team hit the road, traveling to West Marshall High School and finding a victory, beating the Trojans 68-44.
Greene County used a big third quarter to blow open the West Marshall game. The Rams started strong with a 14-5 first quarter lead but the Trojans rallied in the second to cut the lead to 22-17. GC put 31 points on the board in the third while holding the Trojans to 11 to pull award.
Richard Daugherty led the Rams in points with 25, Jesse Miller scored 16 and Brynley Ruzicka scored nine. Ruzicka was 100-percent on scoring for the night, making all of his three-point shots. The Rams had 16 offensive and 25 defensive rebounds, six steals and eight turnovers.
The Rams dropped a non-conference competition to Kuemper Catholic on Dec. 17. The Knights opened up a 17-12 lead in the first frame and stretched their advantage to 41-27 at the break. Greene County played closely with the Knights in the third quarter but Kuemper held the Rams to just four points in the fourth quarter for the 84-54 victory.
Ebersole led the team in scoring with 17 points, nine of them coming as 3-point buckets. Richard Daugherty scored 14 points with two threes. Miller scored six points, Ruzicka scored five, and Patrick Daugherty, Trey Schilling and Braden Robert scored four each. Miller and Ebersole led in rebounds with six each.
The Rams are 3-4 overall and 2-2 in the Heart of Iowa Activities Conference.
