Annual used book sale opens Friday

The annual Friends of the Jefferson Public Library used book sale will open Friday, Sept. 23, at 1 pm in the library basement.

Friday is open for Friends members only. Memberships may be purchased now at the library or at the door for a cost of $5 for individual and $10 for family. Beginning Saturday, Sept. 24, the sale is open to the public free of charge.

The sale features books for all ages, in addition to DVD movies, music CD’s, audio books, board games, and jigsaw puzzles. There will be a combination of donated items and those withdrawn from the library collection. The Friends also recently received a huge private collection of DVDs.

The rest of the week, beginning Sept. 26, the hours of the sale are consistent with the library hours except the sale will conclude at 6 pm each evening and at 5:30 pm on Friday, Sept. 30.

Bargain Day, the final day of the sale, is Saturday, Oct. 1. Patrons are given a brown grocery bag and may fill it to the top for $5. Books without a price tag may go in the bag. “Best Books” and items that are individually priced are sold at half price. Hours are from 9 am to 1 pm.

The fall sale is the major fundraiser for the Friends of the Library. “Come in and support your local library,” a Friends of the Library spokesperson said.
