Children’s planting day at Thomas Jefferson Gardens

Children will each receive a kit with what they need to plant flowers and vegetables.

Children of all ages are invited to learn about seed planting and care on Saturday, April 23, at 10 am at Thomas Jefferson Gardens of Greene County with Jean Walker, head gardener of the attraction.

For a small fee to cover supplies, children will receive individual kits with everything needed to plant seeds that will grow into flowers and vegetables. They will learn about how to water the seeds, the amount of light or sun they need, when to transplant them into larger pots and how to care for the plants as they grow.

“We hope to encourage kids to develop an interest in growing and caring for plants,” said Walker.  “We have started many plants in our greenhouse and we will show the kids what those plants look like, too.”

To participate in the planting day, the children should be pre-registered by calling Walker at 515-370-1905 or stopping at the Welcome Center at TJG to sign up.  Spaces are limited so early pre-registration is encouraged.
