Greene County district court, week ending March 18

In Greene County district court Angel Vaughan, 39, of Marshalltown was sentenced March 17 to five years in prison after she changed her plea to guilty to a charge of eluding. The prison term was suspended and she was place on probation to the Iowa Department of Correctional Services for five years. She was fined $1,025 with a $153.75 surcharge; the fine and surcharge were suspended. In the same case, Vaughan was sentenced to seven days in jail on a charge of unlawful possession of prescription drug. She was fined $430 with a $64.50 surcharge; the fine and surcharge were suspended. She was also sentenced to seven days in jail on a charge of possession of marijuana. The jail terms are concurrent. No judgment for a fine or surcharge was entered on that charge. Vaughan must undergo a substance abuse evaluation and complete any recommended treatment at her own expense. She must pay an amount not to exceed $2,000 restitution for her court appointed attorney’s fees and $140 court costs. Charges of operating while intoxicated and two counts of illegal possession of prescription drug were dismissed. (Sentencing: Honorable Joseph B. McCarville)

Corey Allen Mutum, 27, of Carroll was sentenced March 18 to seven days in jail after he changed his plea to guilty to a charge of possession of methamphetamine. The jail term was suspended and he was placed on probation to Boone/Greene County Probation for two years. He must undergo a substance abuse evaluation and complete any recommended treatment at his own expense. He was fined $430 with a $64.50 surcharge. He must pay an amount not to exceed $600 restitution for his court appointed attorney’s fees and $152.30 court costs. (Sentencing: McCarville)

Melissa Sue Larson, 43, of Jefferson was sentenced to five days in jail after she pleaded guilty to a charge of possession of marijuana- first offense, amended from possession of marijuana- third or subsequent offense. She must undergo a substance abuse evaluation and complete any recommended treatment at her own expense. She was fined $430 with a $64.50 surcharge. She must pay an amount not to exceed $600 for her court appointed attorney’s fees and $173 court costs. (Sentencing: McCarville)

Cases were initiated in district court as follows: Shawn Lee King, 31, of Grand Junction, ongoing criminal conduct- influence enterprise, possession of methamphetamine, and controlled substance violation; Jeremy Thomas Naberhaus, 35, of Carroll, driving while license barred; and Dustin Evans, 39, of Jefferson, sex offender registry- verification violation.
