Rams send six to Class 2A district mat tourney

Greene County High School advanced six wrestlers to the district competition last Saturday.

While all 10 wrestlers placed at the Class 2A sectional meet, only those receiving first or second in their weight class advanced to the district tournament.

Kale Petersen at 120, McKinley Robbins at 132, and Gavin Scheuermann at 152 each took first place in their weight class, continuing their seasons into the next week. Brenner Gallagher at 138, Nathan Black at 160, and Noble Hoyt at 182 each took second and also advanced to the district competition. 

Ending their season are Gavyn Winters who placed third in the 106 weight class, Jackson Turner who placed fourth at 145, as well as Crew Conner 113, and Dakota Mobley 126, who each finished in fifth at sectionals. 

106 – Gavyn Winters received a bye; lost by decision to Jesse Jens 5-2; won by fall over Andreas Buttry 0:39; lost by no contest to Jesse Jens, third place

113 – Crew Conner lost by major decision to Ryler Ziegmann 11-2; received a bye; received a bye, fifth place

120 – Kale Petersen received a bye; won by fall over Brody McKinley 1:34; won by technical fall over Cael Nelson 20-5, first place

126 – Dakota Mobley lost by fall to Joshua LeRette 2:23; received a bye; received a bye, 

132 – McKinley Robbins received a bye; won by technical fall to Chase Sandholm 25-8; won by decision over Luke Musich 8-7, first place

138 – Brenner Gallagher received a bye; won by decision over Reese Fauble 8-5; lost by major decision to Carter Drake 9-1; won by fall over Kyle Kesterson 3:48, second place

145 – Jackson Turner won by fall over Bryce Van Baale 3:32; lost by technical fall to Jireh Gallegos 16-0; lost by major decision to Adam Baier 13-1, fourth place

152 – Gavin Scheuermann received a bye; won by major decision over Justin Riesberg 11-2; won by fall over Tate Mayberry 0:54, first place

160 – Nathan Black received a bye; won by major decision over Bret Van Baale 12-4; lost by decision to Dawson Bond 7-1; won by no contest over Bret Van Baale, second place

182 – Noble Hoyt received a bye; won by fall over Nolan Perrien 0:50; lost by fall to Zane Bendorf 2:45; won by no contest over Nolan Perrien, second place

Team scores: Carroll 183.5, Glenwood 173, Harlan 168.6, Greene County 158, Red Oak 139 and Southwest Iowa (Sidney) 106.

The six advancing to districts will wrestle again on Saturday at Glenwood High School with wrestlers taking the mat at 11 am. The wrestlers who take first and second there will advance to the state tournament in Des Moines on Feb. 17-19.
