Funeral services will be held Jan. 21, 2022, at St Joseph Catholic Church in Jefferson for Joan Elizabeth Minnihan, 85, of Jefferson.
Father Tim Schott will celebrate Mass of the Resurrection. Lectors will be Louise Borsheim and Sue Taylor. Sheilah Pound will be soloist, accompanied by Rhena Lane. Honorary bearers will be Ron Brown, Kathy Brown, Mike Christensen, John Mehl and Mike Bell.
Casket bearers will be Austin Minnihan, Katie Minnihan, Monica Mehl, Krista Mehl, Kenton Thoms and Nathan Dewit. Interment will be at St Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Jefferson.
Joan Elizabeth Minnihan, daughter of John and Elizabeth (Rose) Chovanic, was born July 4, 1936 in Exira. She died January 12, 2022 at Regency Park Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Jefferson, Iowa at the age of 85 years.
Joan grew up in Casey and graduated from Casey High School. She then went on to graduate from Mercy College of Nursing. On Sept. 24, 1960, Joan was united in marriage to Mike (John Michael) Minnihan. They were the proud parents of twins Mark and Michelle. They made their home in Jefferson, where Joan worked as an obstetrics nurse for Greene County Medical Center in Jefferson until her retirement.
Joan was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Jefferson. She enjoyed playing cards, crafts, quilting, and spending time with family and friends.
Joan was preceded in death by her parents; her sisters Lillian and Rose; and her brother John Chovanic Jr.
She is survived by her husband Mike Minnihan of Jefferson; her daughter Michelle (Jon) Mehl of Story City; her son Mark (Ellen) Minnihan of Ames; grandchildren Austin Minnihan and Katie Minnihan both of Ames, and Monica Mehl and Krista Mehl, both of Story City; her sister Marian Pearce of Fort Myers, FL; nieces and nephews; other relatives; and friends.
Slininger-Schroeder Funeral Home of Jefferson assisted the family
