Covid rates decline in county, vaccination rates up

Despite surges in cases of Covid-19 nationally, Greene County positivity rates for the virus have declined, to their lowest point since Nov. 15.

Greene County director of public health Becky Wolf reports that as of Dec. 27, the 7-day positivity rate for Covid testing is 4.9 percent; the 14-day rate is 5.9 percent. Ten cases have been diagnosed in the past seven days; total number of Covid-19 cases in the county is 1,527.

Using 2020 census information showing 8,771 residents in Greene County, 17.4 percent have had Covid-19.

As of Dec. 27, 55.5 percent of the total Greene County population is vaccinated against the virus.

Wolf reminds the public that flu/Covid vaccine clinics are held at the public health department on Level B of Greene County Medical Center Tuesdays from 9 am to 12 pm and Thursdays from 1 to 4 pm. There is no charge for the vaccines.
