Sheriff’s report – October 2021

Following are excerpts of activities reported by the Greene County sheriff’s office:

Sunday, Oct. 31: At 3:28 pm a deputy assisted with an unruly child in Scranton.

Saturday, Oct. 30: At 8:49 am a deputy investigated a complaint of trespass in the 700 block of 215th Lane in Bristol Township. At 7:25 pm a deputy, Churdan fire, Jefferson fire, and Greene County Ambulance responded to a two-vehicle accident on 140th Street and Highway 4. Kevin Schim, 76, of Georgia was southbound on N Ave and stopped at the stop sign and pulled out in front of Ian Schmitt, 21, of Jefferson, who was northbound on Highway 4 negotiating the curve onto 140th St. Both drivers taken to the Greene County Medical Center with minor injuries. Schim was cited for fail to yield upon entering a stop or yield intersection. He was driving a 2019 Nissan NV200 that was totaled in the accident. Schmitt was driving a 2005 Jaguar XJ8 that was also totaled in the accident. At 9:41 pm a deputy investigated a car-deer accident on 190th Street near K Ave in Bristol Township. Cullin Flinn, 26, of Churdan struck a deer with a 2019 Chevrolet Silverado, causing an estimated $1,500 in damage to the vehicle. At 10:04 pm a deputy picked up a runaway child from Webster County in Grand Junction. The child was returned to Webster County.

Friday, Oct. 29: At 10:03 am a deputy investigated an email scam in the 1100 block of Highway 4 in Bristol Township.

Thursday, Oct. 28: At 9:45 am a deputy arrested Eddie Munn, 37, homeless on an arrest warrant for failure to appear*. At 10:48 pm a deputy investigated a violation of a no contact order in the 1300 block of 210th St in Bristol Township.

Wednesday, Oct. 27: At 9:05 am a deputy arrested Theresa Ferguson, 44, of Lohrville on an arrest warrant for contempt of court*.

Tuesday, Oct. 26: At 5:29 am a deputy removed a deer from the roadway on Highway 4 near 190th St north of Jefferson. At 8:13 am a deputy investigated a complaint of trespass in the 2300 block of 3330th St in Washington Township. At 12:08 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of harassment in the 300 block of Irving St in Scranton. At 4:30 pm a deputy assisted with a pursuit in Boone and Dallas counties.

Monday, Oct. 25: At 5 am a deputy assisted with cattle out on the roadway on County Road N-65 (D Ave) near 165th St in Kendrick Township. At 5:44 am a deputy investigated a complaint of someone trying to take 500-gallon propane tank in the 1400 block of Highway 144 south of Grand Junction. At 9:38 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of harassment in the 600 block of North St in Churdan. At 10:25 pm a deputy investigated an assault in the 600 block of Main St in Scranton.

Sunday, Oct. 24: At 12:05 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of criminal mischief in the 800 block of Jay St in Churdan. At 2:18 pm a deputy arrested Justin Downs, 36, of Churdan on warrants for violation of a protective order and a violation of probation*.

Saturday, Oct. 23: At 6:41 am a deputy investigated a possible burglary to a storage unit at Kendrick and Irving Sts in Scranton. At 10:46 am a deputy assisted the Guthrie County sheriff’s office with a pursuit on Highway 4. The pursuit ended on Highway 4 near 305th St in Franklin Township. The driver, Paige Ray-Cluney, 21, of Johnston was arrested by the Guthrie County sheriff’s office. At 5:56 pm a deputy conducted a traffic stop on Highway 30 near L Ave west of Jefferson. The deputy seized suspected controlled substances from the vehicle. There are charges pending lab results. At 11:43 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of theft in the 500 block of E. Main St in Grand Junction. At 11:55 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of criminal mischief in the 400 block of S. 12th St in Grand Junction.

Friday, Oct. 22: At 2:06 pm a deputy investigated a found lawn mower in the field in the 700 block of L Ave in Bristol Township. The mower was reported stolen earlier in the year. At 9:19 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of harassment in the 200 block of Cartwright St in Rippey.

Wednesday, Oct. 20: At 10:03 am a deputy investigated a complaint of harassment in the 500 block of S. 12th St in Grand Junction. At 12:30 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of harassment in the 500 block of E. Lincoln Way in Jefferson. At 7:15 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of harassment in the 400 block of E. Main St in Grand Junction.

Tuesday, Oct. 19: At 3:05 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of harassment in the 200 block of N 16th St in Grand Junction. At 6:18 pm a deputy arrested John Malberg, 27, of Dawson on a warrant for operating while intoxicated- first offense.*

Monday, Oct. 18: At 12:54 am a deputy assisted with cattle out on the roadway on W Avenue near 230th St east of Grand Junction. At 4:17 am a deputy assisted with cattle out on the roadway on Highway 144 near 260th St in Junction Township. At 3:21 pm a deputy investigated an assault in the 700 block of Harding St in Churdan.

Sunday, Oct. 17: At 9:15 am a deputy investigated a single-vehicle accident on 200th St and Glenwood Ave in Bristol Township. A juvenile lost control of a 2013 Ford Escape and entered the ditch, causing an estimated $9,000 damage to the vehicle. The juvenile was cited for failure to maintain control. At 4:57 pm a deputy located a dog running at large in the 800 block of Eagle St in Scranton. The dog was taken to the animal holding facility. At 9:08 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of harassment in Grand Junction.

Saturday, Oct. 16: At 2:19 am a deputy struck a deer with a 2017 Chevrolet Tahoe on 130th St near P Ave in Dawson Township. There was no damage to the vehicle. At 9:13 am a deputy investigated a domestic dispute in Rippey. At 10:32 am a deputy investigated a domestic assault at the same location in Rippey. Suanne Winters, 50, of Rippey was arrested for domestic abuse assault- first offense.* At 1:56 pm a deputy and the Jefferson fire department assist the Jefferson PD with a three-vehicle accident on N. Elm and W. Washington Sts. At 8:32 pm a deputy arrested Luke Molle, 23, of Churdan on warrants for a controlled substance violation, contraband in the correctional facility, and possession of drug paraphernalia*.

 Friday, Oct. 15: At 4:19 am a deputy removed a deer from the roadway on Highway 30 near A Ave. At 7:24 pm a deputy investigated a car-deer accident on County Road E-19 (140th St) just west of Churdan. Paige Lansman, 47, of Churdan struck a deer with a 2012 GMC Acadia, causing an estimated $7,000 damage to the vehicle. At 7:52 pm a deputy investigated a theft in the 1000 block of Sandoe St in Grand Junction. At 11:22 pm a deputy investigated a controlled burn in the 100 block of N. 16th St in Grand Junction.

Thursday, Oct. 14: At 5:29 pm a deputy investigated a single-vehicle rollover accident on 130th St near County Road P-29 N Ave in Dawson Township. A juvenile lost control of their 1987 Buick Riviera and rolled the vehicle into the ditch. The driver suffered minor injuries and was cited for failure to maintain control. Damage to the vehicle exceeded value.

Wednesday, Oct. 13: At 1:27 am a deputy investigated a car-deer accident on County Road N-65 (D Ave) near 160th St in Cedar Township. Brandon Turner, 34, of Churdan struck a deer with a 2010 Honda Civic, causing an estimated $6,000 damage to the vehicle. At 6:55 pm a deputy assisted with unruly children in the 300 block of 190th St in Kendrick Township. At 7:30 pm a deputy investigated a car-deer accident on N-65 near 170th St in Kendrick Township. Pamela Wooters, 63, of Lohrville struck a deer with her 2010 Toyota Corolla, causing an estimated $6,000 damage to the vehicle. At 7:32 pm a deputy assisted the Pomeroy police department with locating a vehicle in Grand Junction.

Sunday, Oct. 11: At 12:10 am a deputy investigated an assault in the 400 block of S. 13th St in Grand Junction. At 2:30 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of criminal mischief in the 1100 block of State St in Scranton. At 2:45 pm a deputy investigated a backing accident at Casey’s General Store in Scranton. Leigh Fidler, 57, of Churdan was backing up in a 2020 Chevrolet Colorado pickup truck when she struck a 2004 Chevrolet Avalanche that was owned by Daniel Currier, 49, of Churdan. Damage to Fidler’s vehicle was estimated at $500. Damage to Currier’s vehicle was estimated at $300. At 5 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of trespass in the 100 block of 190th St in Kendrick Township. At 5 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of a male walking on Highway 25 in Scranton with a rifle slung on his back. The male was not located. At 6:22 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of harassment in the 700 block of Highway 30 east of Scranton. At 8:39 pm a deputy conducted a traffic stop on R Ave near 305th St in Franklin Township. Gary Sinkuler, 51, of Jefferson was arrested for possession of a controlled substance- third offense*.

Saturday, Oct. 10: At 2:33 am a deputy conducted a traffic stop on 130th St near N Ave. Travis Ventiecher, 38, of Churdan was arrested for operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated, possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, and possession of contraband in a correctional facility*. At 11:55 am a deputy investigated a complaint of harassment in the 200 block of Anyer St in Dana. At 1:43 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of animal neglect in the 300 block of 8th St in Grand Junction. At 2:42 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of animal neglect in the 700 block of North St in Churdan. At 3:25 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of illegal burning in the 1100 block of 8th St in Grand Junction.

Saturday, Oct. 9: At 8:25 am a deputy assisted with cattle out on the roadway on County Road E-53 (240th St) near K Ave west of Jefferson. At 8:30 am a deputy investigated a complaint of illegal dumping on 210th St near Q Ave in Hardin Township. At 5:48 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of criminal mischief complaint 12th and Kelly Sts in Grand Junction. At 6:35 pm a deputy investigated a tractor-train accident on A Ave near Ralston. Douglas Halbur, 56, of Glidden was northbound pulling two grain wagons when a wheel fell off of the second wagon, causing it to get caught on the Union Pacific railroad tracks. Halbur unhooked the wagon and pulled the tractor and first wagon off of the tracks, but a train struck the second wagon.  There were no injuries. The Parker 4000 gravity wagon was a total loss, along with an estimated 300 bushels of corn. Damage to the train engine was estimated at $10,000.  At 7:04 pm a deputy and the Jefferson PD responded to a fight in progress at the Greene County Fairgrounds. At 10:18 pm a deputy investigated a domestic assault in Rippey.

Friday, Oct. 8: At 2:52 pm a deputy, Churdan fire, and Jefferson fire responded to a combine fire on K Ave near 110th St in Highland Township. There was minimal damage to the combine. At 3:42 pm a deputy investigated a theft in the 100 block of C Ave in Cedar Township with the Boone County sheriff’s office. Some of the property that was recovered was from a theft in the 1700 block of R Ave.

Thursday, Oct. 7: At 8:49 am a deputy investigated a theft at McMahon Access near I Ave in Jackson Township. At 8:13 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of harassment in the 500 block of S. Main St in Paton. At 8:34 pm a deputy investigated a burglary in the 400 block of S. 9th St in Grand Junction.

Wednesday, Oct. 6: At 5:57 am the sheriff, a deputy, Grand Junction fire and Paton fire responded to a grain dryer fire in the 2100 block of County Road E-26 near Dana.

Tuesday, Oct. 5: No activity to report.

Monday, Oct. 4: At 6:44 am a deputy investigated a car-deer accident on Highway 4 near 300th St in Franklin Township. Sonny Williams, 43, of Georgia struck a deer with a 2014 Ford F150 pickup truck, causing an estimated $5,000 damage to the truck.

Sunday, Oct. 3: At 6:30 pm a deputy investigated an assault in the 800 block of Hill St in Churdan.

Saturday, Oct. 2: At 1:41 am a deputy investigated an attempted burglary in the 500 block of Jefferson St in Scranton. At 3:25 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of harassment in the 1900 block of 190th St in Hardin Township. At 7:20 pm a deputy investigated single-vehicle accident on S Ave near 295th St in Franklin Township. Christina King, 44, of Rippey was northbound and lost control of her 2005 Chevrolet Silverado, rolling the pickup truck once into the ditch. No one was injured in the accident and the vehicle was a total loss.

Friday, Oct. 1: At 8:39 pm a deputy investigated a car-cow accident on Highway 4 near 190th St north of Jefferson. Herbert Miller, 52, of Paton struck a cow on the roadway with a 2017 Dodge Grand Caravan. Damage to the vehicle was estimated at $7,000. The cow belonged to Kris Hoskins of Jefferson. At 11 pm a deputy assisted with a cow out in the 1900 block of Neola Ave north of Jefferson.

*In all cases when a defendant has been charged, this is merely an accusation, and all defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
