The Greene County volleyball team played just one match last week, but it was a big one as the Rams downed South Hamilton Sept. 16 in three sets on the Hawk floor: 25-22, 25-18, 25-9.
The first game was close but the Rams were able to pull it out. The second game was close for a time but the Rams took charge for the win. Greene County dominated the third game.
Leading the offense were Bella Schroeder with 12 kills and Kaylee Stalder with 10. Other contributors were Emma Shipley, seven kills; Natalie Heupel, four; Brianna Habben, two; and Emma Ewalt, one. Katrina Heupel topped the defense with 11 digs followed by Ewalt, eight; Alexa Peters, six, and Graci Cooklin, five. Schroeder and Habben each blocked two hits.
The team served 93 percent as a team with 100 percent performances by Peters, K Heupel and Ewalt. “Freshman Violet Reedy made her first varsity appearance to come in and serve, 11/12 for 92 percent,” praised coach Chris Heisterkamp.
“Alexa Peters had her best game of serve receive passing so far this season, in addition to being perfect at the serving line. As a team, they had a very impressive 93 percent serve percentage,” continued Heisterkamp. “This group of girls openly show their love for the game and their drive to compete. It’s so exciting to watch them do what they love. Their passion is making all the difference on the court.”
Greene County is 8-4 overall in this season and 2-1 in Heart of Iowa Activities Conference play. The Rams hosted non-conference opponents South Central Calhoun and Panorama Sept. 21.
