The number of Greene County residents with Covid-19 has dramatically increased over the past 7-10 days, according to Greene County public health director Becky Wolf.
The number of positive cases as confirmed to tests performed by clinics, pharmacies, and Test Iowa at-home kits shows 47 new cases in the past seven days, a 7-day positivity rate of 10.9 percent. The level of community transmission is HIGH, according to CDC metrics.
Of the new positive cases in the past seven days, 78 percent have been in patients younger than 40.
The breakdown is
- 0-17 years: 38 percent
- 18-29 years: 19 percent
- 30-39 years: 21 percent
- 40-49 years: 4 percent
- 50-59 years: 6 percent
- 60 and older: 10 percent
Wolf anticipates the numbers will continue to increase in the short term due to Labor Day holiday get-togethers.
“We encourage individuals to please continue to seek the COVID-19 vaccine to prevent severe complications, hospitalizations, death, and to protect loved ones and those who cannot be vaccinated due to weakened immune systems and the kids less than 12 years of age,” Wolf said. “It only takes a few minutes of your time to help us end this pandemic.”
