As children head back to school, the Churdan library has finished its summer reading program.
The library had five weekly programs in June and July for toddlers through fifth grade. There was also a bubble program, a community fun night, a swimming trip, and a balloon workshop. Special programs included Dan Towers on local animals, Joe Minnehan on bears, Austin Minnehan on duck hunting, local 4-H members on their animal projects, Dawn Rudolph and Stacie Schmidt on miniature animals and chickens, and the Greene County sheriff’s office on its K-9 unit.
All these programs were sponsored by donations from the community and by funds received from Communities 4 Children and Community Partnerships for Protecting Children Neighborhood/Community Network mini grants. The library was also able to have a magic show and a story walk® sponsored by the county supervisors.

More than different activities were available for all ages and a meal was provided.
Rain later that evening prevented plans for the Town and County Band to perform, free watermelon, and fireworks provided by T Cook, Vicki Sutton, Kerry Kinney, and Roger Lavoie. As a result the library is hosting Remembering 9/11 in Song and Verse. The program will be Saturday, Sept. 11, at 7 p.m. at the park and will include the Town & Country Band, remembering 9/11, and watermelon.
