Crystal Rice hired as Scranton city clerk by 3-2 vote

Scranton has a new city clerk but she was hired amid some controversy and on a split vote.

Crystal Rice was offered the position following a special meeting on Aug. 19. Voting in favor of the resolution to hire Rice were David Dideriksen, Zach Sukovaty and Jeramie Phillips. Casting no votes were Cassidy Wilson and Jerry Boyd.

This was the second time Rice’s employment was addressed by the council. At a special meeting on Aug. 9, the council split vote on the hiring with a two-two tie. Diderikesen was not present at that meeting so his vote on Aug. 19 was the tie breaker.

Rice will replace Lisa Mobley who worked about a year as city clerk. She has accepted employment elsewhere. She has agreed to assist in training Rice, working part-time.
