It’s going to be a long season for the Perry football team. They provided very little contest for the Greene County football squad as they rocked and rolled to a 63-0 victory. The Rams destroyed the Blue Jays, jumping out to a 49-0 half time advantage in their first home game of the year.
Greene County scored on their first seven possessions to blow open the game early. Quarterback Bryce Stalder opened the scoring with an 18-yard pass to Max Riley. Stalder struck pay dirt from two yards out for the next score. Nate Black broke free on runs of 23- and 25-yards for TDs. Patrick Daugherty added a 38-yard jaunt. Brenner Gallagher caught a 35-yard aerial from Stalder followed by a two-yard run by Jackson Morton. Nathan Behne kicked all the PATs.
The continuous clock shortened the Perry misery but not before the Rams padded the score while everyone in a Greene County uniform saw action. Gabe Ebersole took over the Ram offense, tossing a 30-yard pass to Trey Schilling. Brent Dennhardt concluded the scoring with a 12-yard run.
The Rams bulldozed their way to 373 yards of offense while the Blue Jays gained no ground, losing eight yards. Greene County had 238 yards on the ground and passed for 135 with Stalder going six for six for 105 yards and Ebersole completing his only pass for 30 yards. Seven different receivers caught the passes and 10 players carried the ball for the Rams. Black charted 74 yards on three carries and Ebersole totaled 60 yards on five attempts.
The game was the 91st time the Cowbell was contested with the Rams leading the series by a 60-29-2 advantage. The Rotary Clubs from Jefferson and Perry introduced the Cowbell in 1928, but the series goes back to 1898 when the Perry YMCA team defeated Jefferson High School.
The Rams evened their record at 1-1 while the Blue Jays fell to 0-2. Greene County hosts
Kuemper Catholic on Friday, Sept. 10, at Linduska Field in Jefferson. Kick-off is at 7 pm,
