The Greene County boys cross country team opened its 2021 season with a second place finish in the West Central Valley Invitational Sept. 2 in Stuart.
Senior Logan Woodruff led the team finishing fifth with a time of 18:24. Other Rams scoring points toward the team total were freshman Noah Hinote, 12th, 19:31; freshman Gavyn Winters, 14th, 19:41; senior Jayden Carstensen, 15th, 19:44; junior Ethan Frederick, 17th, 19:58; sophomore Kolby Angell, 27th, 20:47; and Ethan Larsen, 29th, 20:56.
Other Ram finishes and times were senior Jax Carstensen, 34th, 21:13; and freshman Aidyn Winters, 64th, 24:54.
Kuemper Catholic (Carroll) won the meet with 53 points, with the Rams totaling 50 points. Kuemper senior Michael Pottembaum posted the fastest time for the race at 17:03.
Other team totals were Interstate 35 66; Nodaway Valley 115; Grandview Christian 116; Ankeny Christian Academy 137; Saydel 198; CAM 212, and Southwest Valley 238. Host West Central Valley, Audubon and Exira-EHK did not have enough runners for a team score.
The Ram girls did not have enough runners for a team score. Junior Olivia Shannon led the team with a 17th place finish in 25:10. Junior Autumn Stevens finished in 48th place in 30:56, and junior Bella Linberg finished 54th in 32:17.
Senior Abbi Goering of Interstate 35 won the race by 19 seconds with a time of 21:46. West Central Valley won the meet with a team score of 90. Other team scores were Nodaway Valley 95; Kuemper Catholic 96; Audubon 105; Interstate 35 113; Grandview Christian 117; Saydel 117; Exira-EHK 161; and Southwest Valley 162. Along with Greene County, Ankeny Christian and CAM did not have enough runners for a team score.
