Greene County district court, week ending Aug. 13

In Greene County district court Jonathan Phillip Michael Kennedy, 33, of Bagley was sentenced Aug. 11 to 15 years in prison after he changed his plea to guilty to a charge of possession of methamphetamine- third or subsequent offense. He was also sentenced to 15 years in prison after he changed his plea to guilty to a charge of possession of marijuana- third or subsequent offense. The prison terms are consecutive; both were suspended and he was placed on probation to the Iowa Department of Corrections for three years. He is to reside in a residential treatment facility for 180 days or until maximum benefits are achieved. He must undergo a substance abuse evaluation and complete any recommended treatment at his own expense. A judgment was entered against Kennedy for an amount not to exceed $700 restitution for his court appointed attorney’s fees. He was assessed $55 court costs. (Sentencing: Honorable Joseph B. A cases in magistrate court in which Kennedy was charged with theft- fifth degree was dismissed. A judgment was entered for $60 court costs.

Noah Adam Bowen, 19, of Jefferson was granted a deferred judgment Aug. 9 after he changed his plea to guilty to a charge of possession of marijuana. He was placed on informal probation to the Greene County sheriff for one year. He must undergo a substance abuse evaluation and complete any recommended treatment at his own expense. Bowen must pay a $100 civil penalty and restitution not to exceed $300 for his court appointed attorney’s fees. Court costs were $136.50. (Sentencing: McCarville)

Cases were initiated in district court as follows: Alicia Marie Hawkins, 31, of Jefferson, possession of marijuana, possession of methamphetamine, possession of heroin, and possession of drug paraphernalia; Melissa Sue Larson, 41, of Jefferson, possession of marijuana- third or subsequent offense, and possession of drug paraphernalia; Jon Mitchell Bushman, 44, of Scranton, operating while intoxicated- second offense; Kyle Thomas Huinker, 47, of Tea, SD, OWI- first offense; Jessica Lea Duong, 29, of Jefferson, OWI- second offense, driving while license revoked, and operate vehicle without owner’s consent; and William Matthew Magneson Jr, 28, of Woodward, eluding, speed more than 25 mph over limit- second or subsequent offense.
