Ram baseball team wins last home game, falls to #3 Gilbert in post-season

The Greene County baseball team lost a Class 3A Substate 8 first round tournament game to #3 Gilbert Friday, July 16. The Rams ended their season 9-15.

Tuesday, July 13, saw Greene County win their final regular season game 13-12 over Atlantic. It was Senior Night for the Rams with Peyton Kinsey, Cameren Miller, and Alex Roberts playing their final game in front of the home crowd. Players and their parents were recognized prior to the game. 

Rams 13 ~ Atlantic 12

Greene County hosted Atlantic Tuesday night in the last game before the post season. The Rams came from behind twice to win 13-12. They entered Substate 8 action against Gilbert on Friday.

Atlantic led 7-0 before the Rams had a chance at-bat. They put three runs on the board in the bottom of the inning. Atlantic added a run in the third and Greene County added three to the tally in the fourth for a 8-6 Trojan advantage. The Rams tied the score in the fifth, but Atlantic immediately regained the lead 12-8 in the top of the sixth. GC put forth another comeback to score five runs and go up 13-12. Ram pitcher Joe Carey retired the Trojans in order in the final inning for the victory. Greene County finishes the regular season with a 9-14 mark.

Peyton Kinsey started on the mound, giving up seven earned runs on six hits and two walks. He gave way to Alex Roberts who worked the next five innings. He allowed five runs on eight hits, four walks and three strikeouts. Carey then took over for the last inning and a half, yielding one walk and striking out four batters.

Big hitters on the night were Kole Teeples who rapped a double and two singles for four RBIs. Bryce Stalder smacked a double and single with four RBIs. Justin Stream added three base hits and an RBI; Carey, two singles, RBI; Max Riley, RBI single; Brayden Roberts, base hit. The Rams committed four errors.

Gilbert 9 ~ Rams 0

Tiger Easton Johnson threw a one-hit shutout as Gilbert defeated Greene County 9-0 in the opening round of Class 3A Substate 8 action in Gilbert Friday.

The third ranked Tigers scored two runs in the first inning, one in the third, two in the fifth, and four in the sixth. The Rams weren’t charged with any errors, but they were unable to make some defensive plays that proved costly.

Stalder was the losing pitcher, allowing 10 hits, including two home runs. He walked two batters, hit two with pitches, and struck out three. Reliever Carey fanned the only batter he faced.

Johnson, a Creighton University baseball recruit, gave up a single to Teeples in the fourth inning. Miller walked in the third, and Jack Hansen reached on an error in the sixth for the only Greene County base runners. Johnson struck the Rams out eight times including six of the last 10 batters he faced.
