Ram softball wins one, loses one

The Greene County softball team defeated Southeast Valley Tuesday, June 29, in Harcourt.Wednesday they traveled to Nevada where the Cubs were victorious 7-2. The Rams wound up regular season with a visit to Ogden Friday.

Post-season play began Tuesday, July 6, with Greene County pitted against Saydel who were HOIC champions.

Rams 4 ~ SE Valley 3

Greene County traveled to Harcourt Tuesday to battle Southeast Valley of Gowrie. The Rams won a close 4-3 contest.

The Rams took a 3-0 lead in the fourth inning when Carmyn Paup cracked her first varsity home run with Emma Stream and Paige Teeples on base. SEV plated two runs in the bottom of the inning and one in the sixth to tie the score 3-3. GC added a run in the top of the seventh that held up for the 4-3 win.

Paup also rapped a single as did Olivia Shannon, Alexa Peters, Stream and Teeples.

Emma Hoyle was the winning pitcher, giving up three earned runs on four hits with four walks, and one hit-batter while fanning 10.

Nevada 7 ~ Rams 2

Nevada accentuated their Senior Night with a 7-2 win over Greene County on Wednesday. 

Nevada stroked a three-run double in the second inning to put the Cubs up 3-0. A run in the third extended their lead to 4-0. Hoyle cracked a two-run homer in the top of the fifth to close the gap 4-2. Nevada mimicked the Rams with a two-run homer in the bottom of the frame and a final Cub run in the sixth gave Nevada a 7-2 victory.

Hoyle’s homer was the only extra-base hit for Greene County. Karissa Stephenson, Shannon, Paup, and Hoyle all singled. 

Hoyle suffered the loss on the mound where she faced 25 batters and allowed seven runs, two earned, on seven hits, walked two, hit two with a pitch and fanned seven. The Rams committed two errors.
