Greene County soccer teams competed against Nevada Tuesday, May 12. The girls were in Grand Junction where they fell 10-0 in one half of play. The boys traveled to Nevada where they were shut out 5-0 by the Cubs.

Boys coach Carl Behne explained the Rams were playing shorthanded and did not possess the ball enough. They will move on and prep for tournament play.

The boys’ and girls’ soccer teams hosted East Sac County in a doubleheader Friday in Grand Junction. ESC girls, who are 11-3, defeated winless Greene County 6-0. The boys topped the Raiders 5-0. 

Alex Roberts led the Rams with three goals while Chance McCollum and Jose Velazco each chipped in one.

The Iowa High School Athletic Association has released boys’ post season pairings which has Greene County as the top seed in Class 1A Substate 7. They will play Atlantic in Grand Junction at Karber Field in the quarterfinals on Thursday, May 20, at 7 pm. The winner will meet Van Meter or Panorama on May 24 at 5 pm in Urbandale at the Des Moines Christian High School. DMC, Grand View Christian, PCM (Monroe), and West Central Valley/Nodaway Valley are the teams on the bottom half of the bracket.

Greene County is ranked 12th and DMC is 16th. The substate final is May 26 at a site to be determined.
