The Greene County boys golf team posted a victory at Manson on Thursday, April 22. The Rams fired a low 180 on the nine-hole event to outdistance second place Southeast Valley by 36 strokes for 216 and Manson-NW Webster shot 226.
Joe Carey was meet medalist, carding 41. Sawyer Schiltz and Kole Teeples also shot 41 with Schiltz getting runner-up honors on a card back. Caden Telleen shot 47, Max Riley 49, and Mason Stream 50
“I am really pleased with how hard the boys have been working and pushing each other,” stated coach Heath Telleen. “We are starting to see the results. We have a ton of potential to keep improving as the year goes on.”
The team traveled to Perry Saturday placing third at the Blue Jays’ tournament. Gilbert won the 18-hole event with 291 strokes, followed by ADM 312, Greene County 355, Carlisle 389, Woodward-Granger 396, and Perry 491.
Carey led the Rams, firing 85. He was followed by Jack Hansen 89, Schiltz 90 and Teeples 91. The Rams shaved 11 strokes off their last 18-hole score. Coach Telleen noted that there is competition among several players for the six varsity spots and thinks the team will improve because of it.
Three Greene County golfers made the trip to Dayton Friday to participate in the Southeast Valley Girls Invitational. Alex Miller shot 52 over nine holes, securing medalist honors. Brianna Habben shot 66 and Josie Weaver finished with 73.
SEV shot 245 with South Central Calhoun firing 263 and Manson-Northwest Webster at 275. Glidden-Ralston, Ogden and Greene County did not have enough girls for a team score.
