The Greene County boys’ soccer team hosted 1-9 Harlan on Karber Field in Grand Junction on Monday, April 19. The Rams fired three goals in the first half while holding Harlan scoreless. The Cyclones came back in the second half to score two goals, but GC kicked an insurance goal for a 4-2 victory.
The Rams’ goals were scored by four different players: Jack Hansen, Alex Roberts, Nathan Behne and Gesser Aguilar. The team took nine shots on goal. Goalkeeper Gabe Ebersole had nine saves. Harlan’s Connor Frame took two shots on goal, scoring on both.
Two ranked teams, Greene County and Des Moines Christian, were tied at one goal apiece Thursday in Urbandale. The second half yielded a single score for the Rams who won 2-1, bringing their record to 6-2.
Roberts and Behne each kicked goals for the Rams with only three shots on goal attempted. Ebersole had 13 saves.
The Rams were rated 11th in Class 2A while DMC was 14th.
The Greene County girls’ soccer team had three road games last week, scoring their first goal of the season in a 2-1 loss at Humboldt Friday, April 23.
Sophomore Katrina Heupel kicked the goal while freshman goalkeeper Kaylee Stalder posted 14 saves.
Monday the Rams were in Harlan against the 3-2 Cyclones. Harlan won the match 8-0, giving up one shot for GC. Stalder had 15 saves as the Cyclones took 31 shots on goal. They scored six points in the first half and two in the second.
Tuesday the Rams fell to 6-0 Des Moines Christian 11-0 in one half of play. Greene County took no shots on goal while the Lions fired 28. Goalie Stalder had 15 saves.
