The Ram track and field teams competed at the Carroll High Coed Relays in Carroll Monday. The boys finished third of eight teams and the girls finished fourth of eight teams. Carroll won both the boys and girls competitions.
The Ram boys won three relays. Daniel Rivera, Bryce Stalder, Richard Daugherty and Jaxon Warnke ran the 4 X 100m relay in 46.32 seconds. Daugherty, Stalder, Warnke and Jackson Morton had the fastest time in the shuttle hurdle relay at 1:03.62, and Rivera, Nathan Wailes, Daugherty and Warnke won the sprint medley relay in 1:41.84.
The 4 X 200m relay line-up of Morton, Stalder, Daughtery and Warnke placed second with a time of 1:34.78. Wailes placed second in the 400m in 56.99 seconds, a personal record for him. Morton finished second in the 400m hurdles in 58.34 seconds, a personal record. Logan Woodruff claimed second in the 1600m run with a time of 5:12.55. He placed second and set a personal record in the 3200m run with a time of 11:01.17.
The distance medley team of Jackson Turner, Gavin Scheuermann, Devin Schmit and Ethan Larsen placed third in 4:11.47. Scheuermann, Brian Burris, Matthew Hovick and Eli Morh placed fourth in the 4 X 400m relay with a time of 4:10.51. Rivera took third place in the 100m dash in 11.99 seconds. Jesse Miller finished the same race in 12:15, good for seventh place.
In field events, Nathan Black took second place in the high jump at 5’ 10”, and Scheuermann added team points with the sixth place jump at 5’ 2”. Stalder placed third in the long jump with a leap of 21’ -1/2”. Burris set a personal record at 17’ 1-1/2”, scoring points for seventh place. Ewalt placed fourth in the shot put with a toss of 35’ 9-1/2”. Kadrick Kinne scored team points in the shot put with a throw of 33’ 10”, in seventh place. Blake Halligan had the best distance in the discus for the Rams, throwing 115’ 6” for fourth place.
The host Tigers scored 128 points to win the meet. Other team scores were IKM-Manning 122, Greene County 119.5, Audubon 71, Woodward Granger 53.5, South Central Calhoun 52, Maple Valley-Anthon Oto 24, and Perry 19.
In girls competition, the Rams won the sprint medley with a time of 2:02.22. Annie Twillie, Alexa Peters, Olivia Shannon and Natalie Heupel comprised the team. Shannon, Natalie Heupel, Makala Kafer and Brianna Osterson placed second in the 4 X 100m relay in a time of 53.68 seconds. The same team running in the same order won the 4 X 200m relay in 1:53.27. The distance medley team with Natalie Heupel, Kafer, Shannon and Katrina Heupel placed third in 4:52.23.
Katrina Heupel placed fourth in the 800m run in 2:46.18. Other Ram track events scoring team points were the 4 X 400m relay team of Annie Twillie, Alexa Peters, Gretah Johnson and Maddie McCarthy in 5:20.48, in sixth place; Twillie in the 100m dash in 14.42 seconds in sixth place; Grace Hardaway in the 1500m run in sixth place with a time of 6:16.33; and Peters in eighth place in the 100m dash with a time of 14.59.
In girls field events, Brooklyn Olson won the shot put with a throw of 37’ 6-3/4”. She placed second in the discus at 111’ 1”. Osterson placed second in the long jump, leaping 16’ 3”. Emma Hoyle threw the shot put 31’ 6-1/2” for seventh place, and she threw the discus 93’ 8”, also good for seventh place.
“We were really proud of the team as a whole. Each athlete went out on a chilly night and gave it their all. We are really pleased with how this group of girls are extremely supportive of one another throughout the night. I think that support helps take our performances to the next level,” coach Derek Merk said.
He noted that the team set 13 personal records and one season best.
Team scores were Carroll 142, Roland-Story 118, Audubon 106, Greene County 63, IKM-Manning 59, Perry 49, Woodward Granger 28, and Maple Valley-Anton Oto 22.
