Jefferson residents or businesses that lost a yard tree in the August derecho or who need a new shade tree for their yard can order high quality, low-cost trees from the Jefferson tree committee, with funding from Alliant Energy, Trees Forever and the city of Jefferson.
Landscape quality shade and understory trees that typically range in cost from $80 to $125 will be available for $30 each.
Several species are available:
Shade (large) trees: Swamp White (Bicolor) Oak, Red Oak, Bur Oak, Hackberry, River Birch (multi stem), Honey Locust, Sycamore, and American Linden (Basswood)
Understory (small) trees: Serviceberry, and Redbud.
Due to limited supply and low cost, only two trees are available per household/business.
Current Jefferson residents or businesses that want to order trees canemail Joan Conroy at, jconroy@netins.net or call her at 515-386-2530. When ordering, persons are asked to indicate species and number from list above, and list one or two alternate species as number per species is limited. Buyers should include their name and phone/email as contact information.
Orders must be placed by Wednesday, April 21, at 4 pm.
All trees must be picked up on Arbor Day, Saturday, April 24, between 10 am and noon at the Greene County fairgrounds. Payment is due at that time.
