The Greene County Rams are 4-3 overall and 3-1 in Heart of Iowa Activities Conference softball.
The Rams took the first loss of the season to PCM in Monroe Friday evening, May 30. The Rams were ahead 3-1 when the PCM Mustangs came up to bat in the bottom of the seventh inning. The Mustangs scored three runs and the final score was a 4-3 loss for the Rams.
Junior pitcher Marissa Promes, who had walked no batters in the first two games of the season, walked just one batter in the first six innings of the PCM game. With two walks in the seventh inning, Promes finished the game with nine strikeouts, three walks, and one hit batter. Promes allowed five hits.
Greene County junior Bailey Godwin doubled, junior Emma Saddoris hit two singles, and juniors Emily Christensen and Hannah Onken each hit one single.
After the long road trip to Monroe Friday, the Rams were back on the diamond Saturday at a tournament in Ogden. The Rams lost the first game of the day to class 4A Boone by a 3-2 score. Saddoris was injured in the in the first inning and did not play the rest of the day. The Rams lost 4-2 to class 4A Webster City, but finished the day with a 15-3 win vs class 4A Carroll. The Rams finished the first week of the softball season with a 3-3 record.
The Rams continued winning on their home field on E. Lincoln Way with a 4-0 win over Colfax-Mingo Monday evening. Their record at home is 3-0.
Promes had seven strikeouts and issued two walks while allowing two hits. Working the bats, the Rams had a total of eight hits. Junior Kayla Mobley hit a double and a single, sophomores Sydney Koch and Carleigh Paup each had two singles, and Onken and junior Tressa Rasmussen each had one single.
There were no runs batted in. The Rams had one error and the C-M Tigerhawks had four errors.
