The number of cases of Covid-19 in Greene County increased by 15 over the New Year holiday, from 658 reported Dec. 29 to 673 reported Monday afternoon, Jan. 4. That’s according to Greene County public health director Becky Wolf.
The 14-day positivity rate remains at 9.6 percent. There have been two new cases diagnosed in the last 24 hours, two new in the last three days, 16 new in the last seven days, and 35 new cases in the last 14 days. There are now 118 active cases; 555 persons are considered recovered.
Wolf said public health anticipates an increase in the number of people becoming ill with Covid-19 after the Christmas and New Year’s holidays. “Remember, it takes 2-14 days following the last contact with an infected person for one to develop symptoms. If you develop fever/chills, headache, body aches, fatigue, sore throat, running or stuffy nose, cough, shortness of breath, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, or loss of sense of taste or smell, please isolate yourself from other household members, using a separate bathroom, if possible,” she said.
She also asked persons to wait until at least 48 hours after the onset of symptoms to seek testing.
The public health Covid hotline, 515-386-0564, is available Monday-Friday, from 8 am to 4:30 pm.
