The public is invited to walk Tipton Prairie Saturday afternoon, Oct. 10, with Dan Towers, Greene County conservation director. The prairie has more than 100 species of native plants and grasses, including Goldenrods, asters, and possibly Gentians.
Tipton Prairie is four acres of native prairie that has never been plowed or sprayed. It remained a prairie in the midst of a wooded area along the Raccoon River because the owners mowed it for bedding.
The walk will begin at 2 pm. Tipton Prairie is located on County Road E-57 (305th St) about two miles east of Cooper, or from Rippey, about one-half mile west of the Raccoon River bridge.
Attendees will maintain a social distance but should bring face masks for times the group gathers to hear Towers’ comments. Water, walking sticks, hats, insect spray, etc are also suggested.
The prairie walk is hosted by the Raccoon River Watershed Association.
