‘Imagine YOUR Story!’ summer reading recap

Once upon a time 126 children went on book adventures all summer long.  They climbed beanstalks, wove straw into gold, rode bicycles, visited their grandmas and the three bears, built houses, kept an eye on that big bad wolf, and read until the wee hours of the morning.  And throughout the summer, they maintained and improved their reading skills and read a total of 21,430 minutes!

So what else did we do at the Jefferson public library this summer?  We invited children to watch YouTube virtual STEM shows and to participate in Zoom Room activities.  They did All Together Interactive Readings, a puppet show, Fairytale Reader’s Theatre, scavenger hunt, Story Walk, and even more.  Absolute Science created unique bubbles using wands from all over the world during a Bubble Parade. One of the bigger wands blew more than 200 magical bubbles.

Each week the children entered a drawing for a Front Step Story prize.  A member of the community went to their home and read a story to the weekly winner.

The infant through 3-year-olds participated in a new program this summer and read a total of 660 books, too.

With the support of Breadeaux Pizza, Friends of the Jefferson Public Library, Greene County board of supervisors, Home State Bank, Hy-Vee Stores, Peoples Bank, Wells Fargo Bank, and other local business around the square, this program was free for everyone.  Library staff thanked all the businesses and volunteers who helped with the summer reading program.

All the children were reading winners. Ariel Robinson’s name was drawn for the Fairytale Scavenger Hunt. Julius Coyne read the most minutes (2, 210 minutes!) and Max Whitaker won the grand prize…a new bicycle,

This was the amazing story about the children who participated in the Jefferson public library summer reading program, “Imagine YOUR Story!” and they all lived happily ever after.

THE END … or is it?  There are more book adventures

waiting for youngsters of all ages at the Jefferson public library.
