Ram softball lost both games of their doubleheader to the North Polk Comets on Monday.
In game one, Emma Hoyle pitched all five innings in her complete game. Hoyle allowed nine earned runs and six unearned runs in her time pitching on Monday. She gave up nine hits while walking six batters and hitting five more. Game Two saw Kaylee Stalder get her first start of the season and her career, where she pitched all six innings in a complete game. Stalder gave up five earned runs and five unearned runs. She gave up eight hits while walking five batters.
Rams bats were cold all evening as they collected just two hits in both the first and second games. Carmyn Paup and Kyla Beyers got the hits in game one and they were the Rams’ only runners in that game. Game Two saw Emma Stream and Kyla Beyers each collect a hit. The Rams were able to have more baserunners in this game though, with Hoyle and Tieryn Tucker reaching base on an error while Paup was hit by a pitch. Tucker drove in the Rams’ only run of the evening in the second game.
In the field, things did not get better for the Rams in either game. The team committed nine errors in both the first and second game. In Game One, every error came in the infield while in Game Two the errors were spread out as all but one fielder committed an error.
The first game saw the Comets jump out to an early lead, scoring seven runs in the top of the first inning. The Comets didn’t look back in this one, scoring two runs in the top of each of the third and fourth innings and four runs in the top of the fifth inning. The Rams were held scoreless in this game and it ended by way of Mercy Rule after five innings. Greene County fell 15-0 in the first game of the doubleheader.
The second game saw a marginally better performance by the Rams, but the Comets proved too much to handle. The Comets got off to a much colder start, scoring just one run in the top of the first inning. They added three runs in the top of the third inning and six in the top of the fifth. The Rams were able to muster up one consolation run in the bottom of the fourth inning, but it was not enough to challenge the Comets for the win. The Rams fell by a score of 10-1 in game two of the doubleheader.
The Rams will look to get back on the winning side of things as they host the PCM Mustangs on Wednesday, July 8.
