JPRD offering swim lessons, Dance Camp and more

Registration is now open for swim lessons at the Jefferson municipal pool. Three sessions of free lessons are planned along with a week of paid evening lessons. The lessons are open to everyone; youngsters much be able to touch bottom unassisted in the 3-ft end of the pool.

Home State Bank is sponsoring the first session, Monday through Friday, July 6-10. Farmers Mutual Insurance is sponsoring lessons Monday through Friday, July 13-17; and Beta Tau Delta and Jefferson Family Dentistry together are sponsoring lessons the next week, July 20-24.

The time schedule is the same for all three sessions. Levels 1 and 3 will meet from 9:30 to 10:15 am, and Levels 2 and 4 will meet from 10:30 to 11:15 am. Classes will fill on a first come, first served basis, with a maximum of 12 students per level. To serve the most people possible, swimmers can sign up for only one free session.

Evening lessons will be taught Monday through Friday, July 27-31, from 5:30 to 6:15 pm for all levels. There will be no Family Hour swim that week. Cost is $20.

Dance Camp for boys and girls ages 7-10 is new in the line-up. The two-day camp will meet Tuesday and Wednesday, July 14-15. Ages 7-8 will meet from 10 am to noon, and ages 9-10 will meet from 1 to 3 pm. Participants will learn dance combinations, leaps, turns and more. Cost is $20 for Greene County Community Center members and $30 for non-members. Jordan Kral will be the instructor.

Children in grades K-3 are invited to Play at the Park, a supervised program Fridays July 10, 17, 24 and 31, from 9 to 10 am. Drop off and pick up will be at the community center, but the fun will be at Russell Park. Four children will be needed to hold the program; maximum enrollment is 12. Cost is $15 for members and $20 for non-members.

Youngsters entering grades 5-8 are invited to a strength and conditioning program Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, July 6-24, from 9 to 10 am. The class will offer both a strength and conditioning workout. The primary goals are to improve athletic performance by improving strength, power, speed/agility, quickness and cardio respiratory capacity. The program will also improve confidence and mental toughness and decrease the likelihood and severity of sports-related injuries. Cost is $25 for community center members and $35 for non-members. Instructors are Simeon Lang and Nathan Kral.

Water aerobics for adults will be offered June 22 through Sept. 4, Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 12 to 12:45 pm. Participants must have a punch pass for the class; passes are available at the Greene County Community Center. Peg Moranville will lead the class.

The adult co-ed softball league will play Tuesdays and Thursdays starting July 14. Game time is tentatively set at 6 pm. A minimum of eight players are needed for a team, with a balance of men and women. A minimum of four teams is needed for the league. The game schedule will be developed based on the number of teams. Registration is due by July 7.

Jefferson park and recreation plans to host the Ding Dong Dash and a 3-on-3 basketball tournament during the Bell Tower Festival Aug. 29. Watch for further information.
