The Jefferson park and recreation department’s Bell Tower Festival bags tournament is moving to the south side of the courthouse square this year.
“We’ve enjoyed having the tournament at Russell Park the past few years, but we’re excited to move it closer to the Festival action. We’re expecting the tournament to become a spectator event, one people of all ages will stop and watch,” said JPRD director Vicky Lautner.
The tournament will be double elimination, depending on the number of entries. Two-person men’s, women’s and coed teams of players 14 years and older will compete in the same tournament. Players 13 and younger will be in their own bracket. Winning adult teams will win cash prizes, and the winning youth team will win Chamber Bucks.
The bags tournament will be one of the first Bell Tower Festival events, being slated for Friday, June 13. Team check-in begins at 5:15 pm on the south side of the square. Play will begin at 6 pm. JPRD will provide a limited number of boards and bags. Teams are encouraged to bring their own.
The registration fee is $20 per team. All players must sign the JPRD’s waiver form before the first match. Early registrations will be appreciated. More information is available by calling JPRD at 515-386-3412, or by visiting the Greene County Community Center.
