To the editor,
I am writing in support of Darren Jackson, who is running for Jefferson city council.
I met Darren in 2018 after announcing my candidacy for the Iowa House. I was attending the Inaugural BOOST Bash when Darren introduced himself to me. He was polite and professional but also curious about why I had put my name on the ballot and skillful in asking questions about why I was running for office.
I found Darren to be engaging and knowledgeable about government funding, values and priorities. He is a concerned citizen and takes the role of local government and voting and citizenship seriously.
Since that initial meeting, I have found Darren to be trustworthy and community-focused. He is a teacher and a supporter of education at all levels. After he got to know me and understand my firm support of public schools, he helped me in a variety of ways: meeting voters in the district, organizing events and walking in parades. Darren looks for opportunities to make Greene County a better place to live.
Darren previously served on the city council in Grand Junction. He was appointed and then re-elected to that position, and only stopped serving the city of Grand Junction when he moved to Jefferson. The people that I know from Grand Junction that served with him give him high marks for his insight, creativity, and professionalism.
A leader is a person who makes everyone around him/her better. Leaders learn about their communities, identify strengths and opportunities, then creatively connect people to resources. Darren is a leader and Jefferson would do well to have him on the city council.
I unequivocally support Mr. Jackson due to his belief in democracy and the democratic process. If you reach out to Darren on an issue, he will listen and consider your views.
It is a great sign that so many candidates are interested in serving on the Jefferson City Council. I would encourage every citizen to exercise their right to vote. The recent ballot measures on the Casino and School Bond had tremendous voter turnout. Absentee ballots are now available, and Jefferson residents are able to cast ballots at the Greene County Auditor’s office now through June 25th. Vote today.
