The Greene County Rams have already put one competitor on the winner’s stand at the co-ed State Track & Field Meet at Drake Stadium in Des Moines.
Junior Colby Kafer placed second in the long jump with a leap of 22’ 6-1/2”. Kafer fouled on his first two jumps, then landed 21’ 5-1/2” and 22’ 6-1/2” on his fourth and final jump. He was 4-1/4 inch off the leap of junior Parker Kiweiet of Dike-New Hartford.
Junior Tyler Miller finished in 18th place in the shot put with his best throw being 47’ 1/2”. The winning distance in Class 2A was 60’ 1/4” thrown by senior Noah Fenske of New Hampton.
Kafer finished fourth in his heat in the prelims of the 200m dash with a time of 23:338 seconds. That ranked him 16th; he missed qualifying for the finals by 1.48 seconds.
Junior Tyler Teeples placed 15th in the preliminaries of the 100m dash with a time of 11.614 seconds. The slowest qualifying time for the finals was 11.34 seconds.
Sophomore Brianna Osterson placed 22nd in the long jump with a leap of 15’ 5-1/4” on her third jump in the finals. Her performance in the preliminaries was similar, with fouls on the first two jumps and 15’ 5-1/4” on her third jump. The champion in Class 2A was freshman Macy Daufeldt of West Liberty; she leaped 17’ 7-3/4”.
In prelims, the girls 4 X 100m shuttle hurdle relay placed third in their heat with a time of 1:11.45. Runners were senior Melanie Doran, junior Izzy Bravard, and sophomores Makala Kafer and Lillian Muir. That placed them 16th overall, 2.24 seconds off the slowest qualifying time.
Competing Friday will be Brooklyn Olson and Miller and in the discus; Carter Morton in the high jump, the 100m high hurdles and the 400m hurdles; the girls and boys 4 X 100m relays; and the girls 4 X 200m relay.
