The footings for the Greene County Career Academy may be poured yet today, Thursday, said Sam Harding, owner’s representative for the project and a member of the Greene County Schools board.
That news was part of a brief report he gave at the regular school board meeting Wednesday.
At this early stage, the project is “right on schedule.” Excavation of the site has started and is going well, requiring less over excavation than expected, he said. The schedule is set for construction of the exterior shell. The contractors will meet June 9 to schedule interior work.
The precast concrete walls are in production, as of this week. The career academy portion is being built first, and the walls for it will be delivered in mid-June. The two-story classroom portion will be built next, in mid-July, followed by the gymnasium in mid-August and finally the auditorium in mid-September.
A brick mason will be on-site in mid-June to start laying block in the career academy.
“Everything is going well. They’ve got a good team assembled,” Harding said. “I enjoy going to their meetings because they’re productive. They’re not meeting just to meet.”
The budget for the project still looks solid, too, Harding said. The budget has $900,000 in contingency funds; he thinks there will be money left when the project is complete.
