Greene County Farm Bureau hosted a “Families, Football, Farming, and Fun” tailgate at Linduska Field on Friday, Aug. 17. County Farm Bureau president John McCormick said “Last year’s inaugural tailgate event was very well attended, and board members decided to host the event again this year. A few modifications were made but our premise of farming and football: hard work commitment, and integrity and showcasing livestock production and agriculture in the county remains the same.”
McCormick continued, “This year we partnered with the Greene County Pork Producers who grilled pork burgers and hotdogs. Fareway and Hy-Vee pitched in with chips, cookies, and bottled water.”
Kids had the opportunity to visit several interactive farm game stations that had been set up including an ag trivia wheel where ag related prizes were given out when questions were answered correctly. A football toss game and pedal pull tractors were also available for kids to ride.
One of the most visited stations was the Ag Across Iowa mobile learning trailer. The trailer is home to a tractor simulator where youth can experience driving a tractor from a realistic tractor cab. Participants could also select which implement they would drive across the field.
The county had educational displays made that were on display to teach youth and adults about modern agriculture practices.
Also, as part of the tailgate, the board partnered with Country Custom Design and had Greene County Rams t-shirts made for all fourth through sixth grade youth who are playing flag and tackle football this fall.
The Greene County Farm Bureau board of directors thanked attendees. “We hope you had a fun evening, learned something about farming, and enjoyed watching the Greene County Rams youth and high school football players,” McCormick said.
