Hamilton Redi-Mix shares tax cut with employees

Hamilton Redi-Mix employees received something extra in their paychecks last week: the first of three installments of a bonus – made possible by the passage of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act of 2017 – more commonly known as the Trump Tax Plan. Joining many Fortune 500 companies in announcing bonuses, Hamilton Redi-Mix hopes to set an example of how the Trump Tax Plan is benefiting their business and employees.

Almost immediately after President Donald Trump signed the new tax law in to plan, companies began announcing various windfalls to their employees in the form of bonuses and increased wages.

The good news was shared with area employees of Hamilton Redi-Mix earlier this year during the company’s spring kickoff meeting. “There was a lot of silence at first” said Bob Hamilton, president of Hamilton Redi-Mix, “I think they were all shocked when we announced the bonus, but it didn’t take long for them to start applauding and cheering”.

Hamilton Redi-Mix operates three ready-mix concrete plants in Central Iowa – Jefferson, Boone, and Fort Dodge. All totaled, 14 employees will each receive a $1,500 Trump Tax Plan bonus, payable over three installments – the first of  which just hit employees’ paychecks last week. “We’ve benefited from a strong economy in the last year, and we wanted to give our employees who made that possible something extra” added Hamilton.

And what about the ‘jobs’ portion of Tax Cuts and Jobs Act? “Oh, we’re hiring. We’ve been able to fill most of the positions we need for the work early in the season, but we have more trucks than we have people. We’re in a good position to bring on more drivers as the season progresses”, shared Hamilton. For at least one central Iowa company, the Trump Tax Plan aimed at generating better wages and more jobs is doing just that.
