The mercy rule shortened both Ram varsity soccer games Thursday. For the boys, it was a 10-0 win over Carroll in Grand Junction. For the girls, it was a 10-0 loss to the Class 1A eighth-rate Gilbert Tigers in Gilbert. The Ram boys led7-0 at halftime and went on to claim the 10-point victory with just under six minutes to play in the second half. Leo Marques, an exchange student from Brazil, scored five of the Rams’ goals and had an assist. Austin Delp and Junior Gutierrez each scored two goals and Isaiah Losee scored one.
The boys are now 2-0.
The Rams were 10 of 14 in shots on goal. Goal keeper Kyle Peters was six for six in saves.
The Ram girls can take heart in limiting the Tigers to just two goals in the first 32 minutes of play. The Rams avoided the 10-point deficit until only two minutes remained in the game. The girls are 0-2 on the season.
