Jefferson Matters offers design assistance

Jefferson Matters: Main Street is offering building owners in the Main Street district an opportunity for free design consultation with Main Street Iowa design specialists Tim Reinders and Maia Jessen.

A simple form needs to be completed indicating interested areas such as roof work, masonry, site improvements, parking, signage, awnings, transom windows, doors, handicapped accessibility, rear entrance, interior updating, upper floor renovation, ceilings, or windows.

This form is available at the Main Street office at 110 W Lincoln Way or online at www.jeffersonmatters.org under Resources. This form needs to be returned to the office with any digital pictures of the current areas and historic photos that are available. A map of the Main Street District is also available on the website or the office to see if property is eligible.

The next step after the application is scheduling a one hour visit with the Main Street Iowa staff to view the property and discuss your needs. A conceptual drawing and information relating to the proposed project such as color swatches, ADA accessibility, and historic tax credit info needed to move forward with the project will be the result.

Historic preservation doesn’t necessarily mean taking the building back to its historic look – but considering that with energy efficiencies and the needs of the business.

Many buildings involved in the recently completed CDBG-façade rehabilitation project started with this program to receive a visual and first glance at how improvements could change the appearance of the building. The Design Committee of Jefferson Matters: Main Street encourages building owners to consider this free program to continue the momentum of preservation in the downtown.

For complete details about this program, please contact Peg Raney at Jefferson Matters: Main Street, 515-386-3585 or director@jeffersonmatters.org The Main Street office is located at 110 W Lincoln Way.
