Volunteers are putting the finishing touches on the Scranton School Memory Room, located in the Community Center. The area has been completely remodeled with new lighting windows, ceiling, carpet, slat wall, insulation, HVAC duct work and lighted display cases. All of the donated items have been catalogued so that a permanent record of the memorabilia is on record.
The work was made possible thanks to a $4,300 grant from the Greene County Community Foundation; $3,000 from an insurance claim from water damage in 2011, and hundreds of hours of volunteer labor.
Volunteers have included Doug Hawn, Dawn Rudolph, Jeff Rudolph, Delores Gibson, Ellie Umbaugh, Diane Kneifl, Jerry Boyd, Jens Villebro, Christina Villebro, Trey Huss, Gale Zellweger and Lorrie Zellweger.
Carpenters included David and Jacob Bendickson with additional work provided by Middendorf Heating and Plumbing. The carpet was installed by Ronnie Baugh.
When there are public events scheduled at the Community Center, the Memory Room will be open for viewing.
